Ex-Atlanta cop awakens to drunken stranger in his bed, police say

As a former Atlanta Police Department officer and Army veteran, Peter Brownlowe has been through a lot.

But Friday night, he found a strange man asleep in his bed, in his underwear and under the influence of alcohol, Channel 2 Action News reported.

Brownlowe accidentally left the front door of his Duluth apartment unlocked, which opened the door to the surprise.

"He came in the bed and was actually laying in the bed with me,” Brownlowe said. “So I got up and came around and said, 'Hey, what are you doing?'"

The man’s shoes were by the front door, and his clothes were on the couch, according to police.

Brownlowe said he could smell alcohol, and he called police right away instead of taking matters into his own hands.

Two Duluth officers responded, and the intruder didn’t come to until he was in handcuffs, Channel 2 reported.

“How much you had to drink tonight?” an officer asked the man, according to the police body camera video.

“It’s OK,” the man answered.

“No it’s not OK,” the officer responded. “Not when you’re in somebody else’s apartment.”

Police identified the intruder as Sangyul Jo, 34, and said he lives three buildings away from Brownlowe.

He was charged with public drunkenness and disorderly conduct and bonded out of the Gwinnett County jail, according to Channel 2.

"He could have actually killed me in that bed right there because I was actually asleep,” Brownlowe said.
