The Georgia State Patrol arrested a man in connection with a hit-and-run death in Troup County.

Arrest made in hit-and-run death of pedestrian

A man has been arrested after a pedestrian was killed in a hit-and-run incident in west Georgia.

Scott Sparks, 31, of LaGrange, is facing vehicular homicide, hit-and-run and other charges in connection with the death of 78-year-old George Bern Allen, the Georgia State Patrol said in a news release.

About 8:50 p.m. Friday, a Ram pickup truck was heading south on Pyne Road in Troup County, the GSP said. Allen was walking south on the shoulder of the road.

The truck didn’t maintain its lane along a curve and went off the side of the road and hit Allen, according to the release. The truck left the scene.

Sparks was arrested Tuesday and also is charged with reckless driving, driving too fast for conditions, failure to report an accident with death and failure to maintain lane, according to the GSP.

Authorities found the suspect due to a tip about a damaged vehicle that matched the description of the vehicle that was seen leaving the scene, according to the LaGrange Daily News.
