A man was arrested and charged with involuntary manslaughter and cruelty to children after the drowning of a 2-year-old boy, Winder police said.

The child, whose name was withheld, was found underwater at the Fort Yargo state park beach after his family members noticed he had gone missing.

Authorities said Tarnue Kolubah, 28, was supposed to be watching the child at the time of the incident but left the child unattended to go to a different part of the beach. Kolubah is being held at the Barrow County Detention Center.

Lt. Chris Cooper said an officer arrived within one minute of the drowning call being dispatched. A bystander was trying to give the boy CPR when Barrow County EMS arrived. They took the child to Barrow Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
