A 36-year-old Acworth man was sentenced to 25 years in prison for molesting a preteen boy at his home, authorities said.

Christopher Shane Reed pleaded guilty to one count of aggravated child molestation and one count of child molestation, the Cherokee County District Attorney’s Office said Friday in a news release.

Reed was arrested in October 2018 after the child told his mother and a school counselor about the abuse, prosecutors said.

Authorities said the child was molested on two separate occasions when Reed invited him over to play video games. It’s unclear how the two knew each other.

Following the first incident, Reed showed the child his pistol and told him not to tell anyone what happened.

“This 36-year-old defendant used the allure of video games to draw an innocent boy into his home in order to perpetrate indecent acts upon him,” said Assistant DA Randall Ivey, who prosecuted the case. “And, because he knew what he was doing was wrong, he used the threat of a firearm to scare the child into staying quiet.”

Following his release from prison, Reed will spend the rest of his life on probation with sex offender conditions and is prohibited from making contact with anyone under the age of 18, authorities said.

“We are thankful this child confided in his family and his school counselor,” District Attorney Shannon Wallace said. “Had he not had the courage to speak up, the defendant may have continued to subject him to these horrifying, perverted acts.”
