Coweta woman’s body found after drowning in Lake Harding

A Coweta County woman drowned in a lake in Alabama over the weekend, authorities said.

About 8:20 p.m. Saturday, a woman fell off a boat in Lake Harding and never emerged, according to the Lee County, Ala., Sheriff’s Office. Her body was recovered the next morning from the lake, which has portions in both Georgia’s Harris County and Alabama.

The county's coroner identified the victim as 41-year-old Natasha Renee Summerlin of Sharpsburg, AL.com reported. Coroner Bill Harris said that a friend tried to save the victim but was unable to find her.

Harris told the newspaper that authorities believe Summerlin could not swim, leading to the incident being labeled as an apparent accidental drowning.

The Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences will perform her autopsy. No other information on the incident has been released.

On the same day, authorities in Lake Lanier began investigation a possible drowning of their own, AJC.com previously reported. The swimmer, who was reported missing at 4 p.m. Saturday, had not been found as of Monday afternoon.

Both incidents come a week after the Fourth of July holiday weekend, which included four deaths on Georgia’s lakes and rivers.
