Clayton County police late Monday morning identified the officer killed in a Sunday night wreck on Tara Boulevard as 26-year-old Darryl Wallace.

Channel 2 Action News reported that Wallace was responding to a call with emergency lights and sirens activated when the wreck happened shortly after 8 p.m. Sunday.

“He was en route to a prowler-type call,” Clayton County police Chief Greg Porter told Channel 2. “He tried to avoid another motorist, over-corrected and caused the vehicle to leave the roadway in the area of Poston Road and Tara Boulevard.”

Clayton County police Officer Jamine Moton said Wallace graduated from the Clayton County Police Academy in November.

Porter called the officer’s death “devastating to the Clayton County Police Department, devastating to the community and devastating to law enforcement in general.”

Moton said Wallace “will be remembered for his selfless and dedicated service to the community and fellow officers.”

Funeral arrangements have not been finalized, Moton said.
