A former CFO is accused of stealing nearly $2 million from a Roswell company. And it’s possible that dollar amount could climb, the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office said Monday.
Steven E. Daniel, 50, of Cumming, previously worked as the CFO for Nanoventions, a communications technology company. Six months ago, the company filed an incident report alleging that Daniel had forged $160,000 worth of the company’s checks, according to Deputy Robin Regan.
Since then, detectives worked with company leaders to review financial records for the past five years, Regan said.
“Based on the evidence collected, it was determined that beginning in 2010, Daniel had completed over 290 fraudulent transactions upon the victim’s financial accounts resulting in a theft of over $1,950,000,” Regan said in an emailed statement.
Though the company is based in Roswell, many of the alleged thefts took place in Forsyth County, Regan said.
Daniel was arrested Feb. 14 and charged with three counts each of felony theft and felony forgery and two counts of financial identity fraud, according to police. He was booked into the Forsyth County jail, where he was being held Monday on $2.2 million bond.
