A Carver College student is suing the school and four of its top officers in U.S. District Court in Atlanta, saying they defrauded him and other students by not releasing federal student loan funds due them.

Donovan Gardner’s suit says that officials of the Atlanta school blamed the delay in disbursing the funds on the U.S. Department of Education.

But the suit cites a Channel 2 Action News story in which a DOE spokesperson said the government did not tell the college to freeze disbursement of the funds.

Among the defendants in the suit is Robert Crummie, Carver’s president and CEO.

The suit states that college officers “used Carver as an enterprise to receive federal student loan funds, which the officers had no intention of properly disbursing to the students.”

None of the federal student aid was actually disbursed, the suit says.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution was attempting to reach Carver officials for comment late Tuesday.
