A busy DeKalb County road reopened hours after a SWAT situation forced authorities to shut it down early Wednesday.

The DeKalb County SWAT unit was on scene on Lavista Road near Biltmore Drive in the Toco Hill area from before 5:30 a.m. until about 1 p.m. The road was blocked between Briarcliff and North Druid Hills roads.

A police spokeswoman said negotiators were speaking with one person who was experiencing a mental health crisis near a synagogue and there was no threat to the community.

The SWAT situation blocked Lavista Road for hours Wednesday.
