As millions of shoppers scramble to shop for essentials this weekend, Publix announced Friday night there time would be limited to do so in coming days.

Publix announced Friday night that stores would close early as the Florida-based franchise works to sanitize its stores as a protective measure in the midst of the coronavirus outbreak. The store brand will close its doors at 8 p.m. beginning Saturday, March 14, and that close time will be implemented until further notice. The store employees will also use the early closures to allow time to restock shelves.

“To better serve our customers, give our store teams time to conduct additional preventive sanitation and restock product on our shelves, beginning Saturday, March 14 we will adjust store and pharmacy hours companywide to close at 8 p.m. until further notice,” read a statement on the Publix Facebook page.

The time change affects the brand’s more than 1,200 stores across the country. There are more than 180 stores based in Georgia.
