A woman was taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries after getting hit by a car in Sandy Springs on Thursday, police said.

The woman, who is in her late 60s, was struck by an 85-year-old man as she crossed Roswell Road at Vernon Woods Drive, according to Sandy Springs police spokesman Sgt. Sam Worsham.

“She was crossing the street and he was making a left turn and did not see her in the crosswalk,” Worsham said.

The impact of the crash knocked the woman unconscious and trapped her under the car, according to police. First responders were able to free her from beneath the vehicle and take her to the hospital.

The crash remains under investigation.
