A man nabbed by store security officers for shoplifting at a Gwinnett Walmart last weekend called 911 because, he said, he thought they were “thugs.”

Alfonso Aguilar was arrested Sunday night for aggravated assault after pulling a knife on one of the guards at the store on Buford Drive, according to the Gwinnett police incident report.

Guards told police they saw Aguilar take items from the story and leave. That’s when one of them went out to stop him, identifying himself as security in the process.

As the guards were walking back to the store with Aguilar, one noticed him pulling a knife from his pocket and swinging it at another guard. Aguilar fled, the guards said, but police caught him nearby.

According to police, Aguilar, “… said that he didn’t know they were loss prevention and that they look like some thugs. He said he pulled the knife in self defense because he did not know who the gentlemen were that (were) taking him.”

So, Aguilar called for help.

So did store security, which is who the cops side-ed with.
