The biggest regret for a home invasion victim was not being able to protect his niece from an alleged sexual assault.
The victim, who did not want to be identified by Channel 2 Action News, said he was watching his cancer-ridden brother’s home during the Jan. 26 incident in Clarkston.
“I could not protect my niece,” he said, “That’s what I came (to the house) for in the first place. I couldn’t let her be by herself, and I’m there and this happens.”
Three men, armed with various firearms, forced their way into a residence at the Portofino Apartments in the 1200 block of Brockett Road, Clarkston police Detective Jasond Elliott said.
Once in the apartment, the men demanded cash and wanted to know where the safe was, Elliott said.

A 5-year-old girl was also inside the home, but she slept through the entire home invasion.
The man said the alleged gunmen pushed him to the floor, kicked him and hit him in the head and lip. The victim also told Channel 2 that they took his ID, debit card and $400.
“My life just flashed before my eyes,” he told the news station. “I thought I was going to die.”
The suspects also sexually assaulted the victim’s 16-year-old niece, who was able to give a good description of the alleged attackers.
No arrests have been made.
