A man was arrested after allegedly attacking a University of Georgia student who refused to let him use her phone.

According to Athens-Clarke County police, Randy Daniel entered the student’s apartment through the back door about 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Whistlebury Condominiums on North Avenue.

The victim lived there with three other women, also UGA students.

Once inside, Daniel allegedly asked to use a phone despite already having one in his hand. When the woman said no but offered to call a number for him, Daniel refused to leave, told them he had a gun and began attacking them, according to the police report.

He allegedly grabbed the phone from the victim’s hand and a struggle began that led out of the back door, according to police. The victim told police Daniel struck her in the head and mouth.

Police found her covered in mud with a swelling above her left eye, but by the time they arrived Daniel had left with the cellphone and a purse. A second woman had tried to grab Daniel before he left but ended up tearing his shirt.

Daniel was later found near the Foundry, a popular music venue. Police chased him and used a Taser before taking him into custody.

He faces robbery, aggravated assault and burglary charges.

Earlier that day, Daniel was accused of being hostile with employees and guests of Bigger Vision, a homeless shelter.
