A Carroll County teacher turned herself in Monday on accusations she was having a relationship with a 16-year-old male student.

Sydney Sewell, 25, a chorus teacher at Central High School, faces sexual assault charges, Carroll County sheriff’s spokesman Deputy Brad Robinson said.

Authorities issued warrants for Sewell after getting a tip March 22 that the teacher and student allegedly had a sexual relationship for months.

It was not known Tuesday what her employment status is with the school system.

She is out of jail on $5,000 bond.
