Someone driving a stolen vehicle crashed into the escalator of a Chamblee Walmart after fleeing a traffic stop Wednesday morning, police said.

The wreck happened at the Walmart Supercenter in the 1800 block of Chamblee Tucker Road, according to Chamblee police spokesman Lt. Chris Newberry.

The driver sped away from officers near the store Wednesday morning, Newberry said. The car then went into the parking deck under the shopping center, where it hit the escalator, he said.

After the wreck, the driver got out and ran, police said. They have not been found.

One glass panel of the escalator was broken, but no major damage occurred and no one was injured, Newberry said.

An investigation is ongoing.
