Predawn fire damages southwest Atlanta home

No injuries were reported Wednesday in a predawn fire that heavily damaged a house in southwest Atlanta.
The fire broke out just before 5:30 a.m. on Kenmore Street off Avon Avenue.
Atlanta fire Battalion Chief Todd Edwards said units arrived to find heavy fire conditions coming from the first floor of the two-story house.
"Due to the time of the morning and the amount of fire we had, we wanted to make sure that we didn't have anybody still inside so we made an aggressive search of the entire house," Edwards told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. "We had an all-clear on all the primary searches."
Edwards said the frigid predawn temperatures didn't have a detrimental effect on firefighters.
"Compared to the winter we had, this wasn't too bad," he said. "I think it's more of the mental shock of going from 80 degrees to fighting (a) fire again back in this weather."
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
