A man was arrested after he allegedly threatened a mother and her child outside of her Sandy Springs apartment building, according to a police report.

Ernesto Morales Alonso, who was charged with armed robbery, two counts of aggravated assault and child cruelty, was taken to the Fulton County jail in the Jan. 10 incident.

According to the report, the mother had just pulled up to her apartment when she saw three people, including Alonso, arguing and blocking the driveway with a red sedan.

Alonso was trying to force a woman into the sedan before going to his car, grabbing a rifle and walking to the victim’s car, the report said.

“(The victim) stated (Alonso) told her to give him all of the money or he was going to kill her,” Sandy Springs police Officer J.B. Williams wrote in his report.

Channel 2's Mike Petchenik reports.

Police said Alonso held the gun to the woman’s throat and  asked her for everything she had, but he got angry when she handed him $10 and told him that was all she had.

The mother offered her car when Alonso began pushing her around, police said, but she said she wanted to get her 1-year-old out of the vehicle first.

Alonso threw the money back in her face and the victim was able to drive off, police said.

He was arrested at a nearby Shell station after failing to comply with officers’ commands, according to the report.

Alonso remained in the Fulton County jail Tuesday evening. He also faces charges of weapons and felony terroristic threats.
