A Forsyth County man accused of stealing a bicycle from two Georgia Tech students on campus at knifepoint was arrested by Atlanta police on Thursday night.

Andrew Durham was charged with armed robbery and aggravated assault with intent to rob, Georgia Tech police said in a Facebook post.

The students, Jason Blackett and Sarfaraz Syed, told Channel 2 Action News that a man holding a knife approached them and asked if they “really wanted the bike” Wednesday night. Syed attempted to stop the suspect by hitting the thief with his camera bag but was unsuccessful.

Channel 2's Christian Jennings spoke to the victims Thursday.

During his departure, the suspect either dropped or threw his knife, which Syed picked up, he told Channel 2. Syed then chased the suspect, who eventually got away.

Durham later abandoned the bike on campus, which Georgia Tech Police later found, the post said. They identified the suspect using surveillance video and issued a warrant to surrounding agencies.

Atlanta police located the suspect and arrested him downtown, the post said.

Durham was previously convicted of felony opiate possession in 2012 in Forsyth County and spent more than six months in prison, according to Georgia Department of Corrections records.
