Two brothers say someone vandalized their corn maze in Dawsonville just three weeks before it was scheduled to open.

Two brothers are trying to figure out who vandalized their corn maze in Dawsonville just three weeks before it was scheduled to open for the fall season.

Brian and Chris Gober were preparing to open Papa Pat's Corn Maze for its inaugural year, Channel 2 Action News reported. The 12-acre field is located on Ga. 53 in the spot where Uncle Shuck's Corn Maze stood before relocating.

Just over a week ago, Brian Gober noticed that plants in a large portion of the field were turning yellow and dying, he told Channel 2. He said vandals sprayed the stalks with a herbicide.

Gober called it a deliberate effort to sabotage the crops. The brothers told Channel 2 they believe the vandals used backpack sprayers to coat the corn with a plant killer that can only be used by those who are licensed applicators.

Gober said he believes they came after dark so they wouldn’t be caught. About two acres were destroyed, Channel 2 reported.

The Dawson County Sheriff’s Office is investigating.

“We have never had anything like this done to us,” Gober said. “We don’t know why anyone done this, because there’s plenty of room for everyone else in agritourism.”

Gober said he and his brother will open the maze Sept. 20 as planned.
