DeKalb County firefighters rescued 10 cats from a Stone Mountain home Friday evening, authorities said.

A fire broke out at a home along Churchill Court about 8:40 p.m., the agency said on its Twitter account.

Crews pulled 10 cats to safety, and first aid was given to several pets at the scene, fire Capt. Dion Bentley said.

There were about 20 cats inside the home when the fire started but half of them were able to escape on their own, Bentley said

No residents were home at the time and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
