Cobb pedestrian dies after car hits him on dark roadway

Sept 12, 2019

A man died after a car hit him Wednesday as he walked in a dark area, Cobb County police said.

Ernest Moore, 50, of Marietta, was walking on Powers Ferry Road near Wood Hollow Drive about 9:15 p.m., Cobb police spokeswoman Officer Sydney Melton said Thursday in a news release.

A gray 2010 Mazda 6 headed northbound on Powers Ferry Road hit Moore as the car approached the intersection at Wood Hollow Drive, according to police.

“The driver immediately stopped and sought assistance from other motorists,” Melton said.

Moore was taken to WellStar Kennestone Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Investigators said the roadway is not lit in the area where the accident happened. There is no evidence of impaired or distracted driving, and speed does not appear to be a factor, investigators said.
