Athens-Clarke County police arrested a 14-year-old boy Wednesday night after a dispute with his grandmother over a cellphone turned violent.

The boy choked the woman and punched her in the head, police told the Athens Banner-Herald. He faces charges of battery, simple battery and terroristic threats or acts. The woman told police her grandson has anger problems and similar outbursts had occured before.

The 14-year-old came home from school with an iPhone he found in the pocket of a jacket from lost-and-found, the woman told police. Neither the jacket nor phone belonged to him.

When his grandmother took the phone with the intention of returning it to school, the boy shouted vulgar language and threatened to kill her, police said.

She slapped him, and the boy became enraged. He grabbed his grandmother by the throat and punched her in the head, according to police. Three other children in the home witnessed the attack, the Banner-Herald reported. They pulled the boy off the woman. The children then followed the 14-year-old to his room to confront him, and he punched one of the other children.

The boy was held for a juvenile court detention hearing.
