Nine people have been arrested in connection with a fatal shooting last year outside a southwest Atlanta apartment complex.

Aaron Petty, 37, and Kahleil Smith, 21, are both in the Fulton County Jail facing multiple charges, including felony murder. Seven other people were taken into custody in North Carolina, Atlanta police confirmed to AJC.com. Police spokesman Jarius Daugherty said the department is trying to extradite those suspects to Georgia.

The arrests come after Kaso Gordon, 26, was killed at Colonial Square Apartments in October. A Florida resident, he had flown in to visit his mother, who lives in East Point, Channel 2 Action News reported.

Gordon’s parents told Channel 2 he was dropping off a friend at the apartment complex right before he was shot. Surveillance video shows several people getting out of a car, then firing away.

Several shots hit Gordon, who was sitting in a car, the station reported. The people then got back into the car and left.

“I have no words. I feel numb. Very numb. So, I just want justice for my son,” Karen Gordon told Channel 2 soon after the shooting.

Gordon’s family filed a lawsuit Monday against the apartment complex. Channel 2 reported that Diallo Seabrooks said the complex is liable, as the lack of security led to the death of his son.

Those arrested in North Carolina in connection with Gordon’s death were: Jeffery Davis, 32, Armani Washington, 22, Tyrell Caldwell, 22, Derek Taylor, 30, Quatin Taylor, 22, Marcus Sellars, 29, and Demetrius Ortiz, 16.
