Ocoee High School senior Dexter Rentz, who was scheduled to play football for the University of Louisville next season, reportedly was shot and killed late Saturday in Orlando, Florida, according to reporter Rachael Krause of MyNews 13.

Rentz was among four males reportedly shot on Elese Street in Orlando, according to Krause and WFTV reporter Karla Ray, who both cited Orlando police.

Orlando police said more than 30 shell casings were found, and they believe all were from one gun, Krause reported.

Police said there was a gathering late Saturday on Elese Street, and the shooter fired at a car outside, hitting at least one person in the car, Krause reported.

Police are continuing to search for a suspect, according to MyNews13.

Rentz tied a state record in 2017 when he intercepted five passes in a game while playing as a sophomore at Ocoee High School, according to the Orlando Sentinel.

An outpouring of grief on social media paid tribute to Rentz, who was looking forward to becoming a Louisville Cardinal as a wide receiver.

Louisville football coach Scott Satterfield lamented his death in a statement Sunday that described Rentz as “a great young man who had a contagious personality.”

When he announced some of his new recruits in February, Cardinals assistant coach Gunter Brewer called Rentz "a great kid" whom he looked forward to coaching, according to the Louisville Courier-Journal.

Rentz had signed with the Kentucky school last June, the paper said, citing a radio interview in which he said his goal in his final year of high school was to grow as a leader and help “the young guys see that there’s more to it than football.”
