All lanes of Scenic Highway were shut down after a Gwinnett County police officer crashed Thursday morning.

Two drivers, including a Gwinnett County police officer, were taken to the hospital after a crash on a major Snellville road Thursday morning, authorities said.

All lanes of Scenic Highway were shut down for more than two hours at Wisteria Drive while police and the Georgia State Patrol investigated. The scene was cleared and the lanes reopened just before 9 a.m.

According to the preliminary investigation by the GSP, the officer was driving north on Scenic Highway when a Nissan Versa traveling west on Wisteria Drive attempted to turn left from a right turn lane, agency spokeswoman Franka Young told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. The Versa ended up in the path of the patrol vehicle and was struck on the driver’s side, Young said.

The driver of the Versa and the officer were taken to Northside Gwinnett Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, Young confirmed.

The driver will be charged with failure to yield while turning left and improper left turn.
