Authorities are working to identify the remains of a child that were found floating in the Chattahoochee River on Thursday.
Police officers were sent to a stretch of the river in the 3400 block of Cobb Parkway to investigate the grisly discovery, according to Cobb County police.
The child’s exact age is not known, but investigators believe they were between 1 and 3 years old, police spokesman Sgt. Wayne Delk said.
The toddler’s remains were found about 10:30 a.m. by a Cobb County Fire Department crew doing a training exercise in the river, Delk confirmed to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

The crew was “beginning training and filming a water safety video when they discovered the remains of toddler,” Delk said.
It is not clear what condition the remains were in. Authorities believe the child may have been in the river for nearly two days before the remains were discovered.
“It is likely the child may be missing from a location north of Cobb County,” Delk said “The toddler has not been identified and investigators are urging anyone with information as to the toddler’s identity to contact them with possible leads.”
The child’s body was taken to the Cobb County Medical Examiner’s Office to be identified. Anyone with information on the toddler’s identity is asked to contact Cobb police at 770-499-4111 or by email at cobbpolicecrimetips@cobbcounty.org.
