A major crash involving 18 cars shut down I-285 East in Sandy Springs for more than two hours Monday afternoon, police said.

No serious injuries have been reported, according to Sandy Springs police spokesman Sgt. Salvador Ortega. The crash happened on the inner loop just before New Northside Drive.

At one point, congestion stretched all the way to South Cobb Drive. The interstate began to reopen about 5:30 p.m., and all lanes reopened by 6:15.
