Strong storms bring down trees in Atlanta

Trees also fell in DeKalb County along Lloyd Road, damaging multiple homes, and along Peachtree Hills Avenue in Buckhead (shown here).

Another round of strong storms is in Wednesday’s forecast, and the risk for severe weather is greater for Atlanta.

The Weather Service has issued a Level 3 severe weather outlook for most of North Georgia on Wednesday. The storms will be more scattered, but any that develop have the potential to turn severe, Channel 2 meteorologist Brian Monahan said.

“This is another (storm system) that’s going to come in the afternoon and into the evening hours Wednesday, into the very early morning hours Thursday,” he said. “Large Level 3 risk for damaging wind gusts and large hail. A tornado possibility is there as well.”

Ahead of the potential for severe weather, Monahan is encouraging everyone to make a plan to hunker down. The best place to ride out a tornado is the lowest level of your home away from windows.

“A basement is best, but a closet or bathroom if you do not have a basement,” Monahan said. “Put as many walls between you and the outside as possible.”
