It’s going to be another warm and dry day for metro Atlantans on Wednesday.

Morning temperatures are in the 60s, and by lunchtime, we’ll be up in the mid 70s. The high today will top out in the upper 80s, a trend that will carry through the weekend even with some storms in store.

By Memorial Day, it’s “going to feel more like the first day of summer — that’s June 20 this year,” Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brian Monahan said. “So temperatures are about a month ahead of schedule for being this warm.”

We should stay mostly dry on Thursday, too, but there’s a low chance of an isolated shower to the north of the city. Later in the afternoon, a sliver of the dar North Georgia mountains will be under a Level 1 of 5 risk for severe weather, Monahan said.

“Any storms that pop up tomorrow afternoon, in that summertime heat that’s building, can get gusty — strong wind gusts and the possibility of some hail,” he said.

Severe weather isn’t expected Friday, but rain stays in the forecast then through Saturday. Sunday will be a little bit drier, as will Memorial Day, but an isolated shower or thunderstorms can’t be ruled out.

Five-day forecast for May 22, 2024.
