Two former Peachtree City Councilmembers will meet later this month in a runoff to see who will be the Fayette County community’s next mayor.

Kim Learnard and Eric Imker appeared to receive the most votes cast in Tuesday’s election to replace Mayor Vanessa Fleisch, who cannot run again because of term limits. Learnard and Imker, who led a field of five candidates, however, did not reach the threshold of 50+1% to win the office outright and will compete again in the Nov. 3 runoff.

Also in a runoff are Frank J. Destadio and Phil Crane for Post 4 on the Peachtree City Council. The pair received the most ballots for the job out of four total candidates, but did not get enough votes to win the job without a runoff.

Two incumbent politicians in the south metro Atlanta community lost their positions in Tuesday’s elections. Gretchen Caola appeared to best incumbent Kevin Madden for his seat on the Peachtree City Council while Niyah Glover unseated Post 5 Fayetteville City Councilman Paul Oddo.

In Fayetteville, a referendum on package sales received more than twice as many yes votes as no votes, 1,299 to 467.

In 2022, Georgia Power projected its winter peak electricity demand would grow by about 400 megawatts by 2031. Since then, Georgia has experienced a boom of data centers, which require a large load of electricty to run, and Georgia Power's recent forecast shows peak demand growing by 20 times the 400-megawatt estimate from just three years ago.
