Clayton County students who want to get vaccinated to halt the spread of COVID-19 will soon get the chance to do so at school.

The district will begin offering the Pfizer inoculation at around 25 schools throughout the south Atlanta metro community beginning Sept. 9.

“As we continue to prioritize the safety of all employees and students, we are proud to offer COVID-19 vaccines to our students,” Clayton Schools Superintendent Morcease Beasley said in an announcement Wednesday. “While receiving the vaccination is completely voluntary, we are excited to move forward in our ‘Clayton Calling the Shots’ vaccination efforts and provide this opportunity.”

The inoculation will be available to all students 12 years and older and is free of charge. Students between the ages of 12 and 17 must receive consent from their parents.

For the week ending Aug. 27, Clayton County recorded 266 cases of COVID-19: 232 students, 34 staff. The cumulative total for August is 818.
