Patricia “Patty” Anton, 63, moved to the province more than 15 years ago from Michigan and taught at a local private school for six years, family said. She was found strangled to death Nov. 12 with her hands and feet bound.

According to police, the names of those arrested in her slaying are Michael Mariñez Rosario, Heuri Flores Hernández, Junior Alexis Suarez, Juan José Andújar Mella, Oroniel Canario Montero and Alexis Maquey. An arrest warrant was also issued for an additional suspect who uses the alias “El Venezolano” — which means The Venezuelan.

Investigators would not reveal how they tracked down the suspects, who are also accused of stealing Anton's cash, cellphone, laptop computer and 40-inch television during the brutal attack.

Anton, who was born in Italy and grew up in Traverse City, Mich., worked as a teacher and consultant at the 3 Mariposas Montessori school in Puerto Plata.

Anton leaves behind a husband, Patrick, and three grown children ages 35, 31 and 28.
