U.S. deputy marshals arrested an Ohio man Friday on charges of murdering a man in Smyrna in 2006.

Smyrna police took out a warrant this week for Joshua Moulder, 35, of Xenia, Ohio, contending he shot to death Anthony Tyrone Rudolph, 41, of Cleveland, Ohio, on July 22, 2006 at the Knights Inn motel on South Cobb Drive, Officer Christopher Graeff said.

The arrest came just soon enough for the lead detective on the case, Mitch Plumb. He is retiring Friday after 24 years with the Smyrna Police Department.

Police released no details Friday on what led them to Moulder. After the killing, the only lead police announced was finding Rudolph’s missing vehicle a few days later at the Woodchase Apartments on Six Flags Drive in Austell.

The police worked closely with prosecutors and investigators on the new cold case squad established this year at the Cobb County District Attorney’s Office, Graeff said.

“We look forward to bringing Mr. Moulder to trial as soon as possible,” District Attorney Vic Reynolds said Friday.
