Alabama man sentenced to life after Cobb armed robbery
An Alabama man will spend the rest of his life behind bars after a Cobb County jury handed him his third armed robbery conviction.
According to Cobb District Attorney Vic Reynolds, the jury last week convicted 46-year-old James Arrington, of Montgomery, of armed robbery, aggravated assault, kidnapping with bodily injury and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon during commission of a crime. Cobb Superior Court Judge J. Stephen Schuster sentenced him as a recidivist to life in prison without parole, plus the mandatory 15 years consecutive on the firearms charge.
The charges against Arrington stemmed from a Nov. 3, 2012, incident. Officials said Arrington and another man targeted an unmarked van carrying more than $100,000 cash and ATMs to set up at festivals. Two Atlanta Cash Solutions employees were held up at gunpoint, with one employee forced into the back of the van, where he was beaten with a metal pipe and his life was threatened. The other employee was forced to drive to Shaw Park, where the men then forced the employees to hand over their cell phones and shoes.
Authorities found the van nearby with a flat tire and the money gone.
“Mr. Arrington is a dangerous repeat offender, having previously been convicted of two armed robberies in Montgomery, Alabama,” Assistant District Attorney Theresa Schiefer said via a news release Tuesday. “His own arrogance sealed the prison doors behind him. This life sentence makes the community safer and more secure.”
Cobb police continue to investigate the case.
