Rapper and actor Christopher “Ludacris” Bridges has never taken himself too seriously.

After his Mercedes-Benz S63 sedan was stolen Jan. 25, the 38-year-old Atlanta native showed off his comedic acting chops in an Instagram video with friends Dewayne Colley and Desi Banks.

The video winds up with Colley and Banks telling Bridges that they heard about the car theft and bought him a gift to show their support.

“You’ve been doing good for the community for years. We want to thank you for inspiring us, and we heard that your car was stolen,” Colley said in the video. “It was kind of his fault, though, since he left the keys in it ...” he added.

The actor, one of the stars of the car-heist-themed “Fast and Furious” movie franchise, fell victim to a car thief after leaving his key fob inside his Mercedes while getting money from an ATM near the intersection of Peachtree and 6th streets.

Colley and Banks, who are both comedians themselves, had Bridges close his eyes and then presented him with the unseen gift. When Bridges opened his eyes, he seemed overwhelmed by their generosity — an impressive feat of acting for an Instagram video.

The gift, it turns out, was a red wagon made for children. Bridges went so far as to get in the wagon, with Colley and Banks pointing out that it matched the actor’s outfit.

Bridges is well-known for donating his time and money to a wide variety of causes around Atlanta. He has served as Georgia State University’s artist-in-residence and his charitable platform focusing on youth empowerment, the Ludacris Foundation, is headquartered in East Point. In May, he was instrumental in donating masks to MARTA workers, and in the fall of 2019 he gave $100,000 to the relief effort after Hurricane Dorian devastated the Bahamas.

Though his case has gotten plenty of attention, Bridges is just one of many victims of this type of car theft. According to Atlanta police, hundreds of cars have already been stolen in 2021, and a majority of those cases involve cars left running or have keys left inside.

Bridges’ car was tracked down and recovered in Midtown later the same day.
