A North Georgia man faces several felonies after authorities said he critically injured his 8-week-old son.

Scott W. Waters, 20, of Jasper, was arrested Thursday, the GBI said in a news release. The baby, who has not been identified, was flown to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite last week and is “still fighting for life," according to the Pickens County Sheriff’s Office.

The investigation into Waters began Oct. 1 after his son was taken to the hospital with critical injuries, the GBI said. Few details about the case have been released, but Waters is charged with two counts of child cruelty, four counts of aggravated battery and one count of aggravated assault, jail records show.

He remains held at the Pickens County Jail without bond.

“Agents from the GBI and PSO detectives were able to quickly make an arrest in this very difficult case,” the sheriff’s office said Friday in a Facebook post. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the infant that is still fighting for life at this time.”
