Three Clayton County women, two of them sisters, were arrested recently after police tracked down the SUV they were riding in during an alleged road-rage incident that ended with a fatal shooting.

Regina Carswell, 21, of College Park, was arrested Friday and charged with the murder of Mary Riden on July 30, Clayton police said. The same day, police arrested Carswell’s sister, 24-year-old Shaniqua Carswell, and charged her with hindering the apprehension of a criminal.

The day prior, Clayton police arrested Katesha Pierce, the owner of the black 2010 Dodge Journey involved in the incident. Pierce, who was driving when the shooting happened, was also charged with hindering the apprehension of a criminal.

Riden was a passenger in a car that was traveling with another vehicle near Tara Boulevard and Old Dixie Road, police said. The two cars encountered Pierce’s Dodge Journey and there was a near-collision between the SUV and the first vehicle, police said. Occupants of all three vehicles argued as they traveled north on Old Dixie Road until they were stopped at a red light.

Riden then got out of her car and approached the passenger side of Pierce’s SUV. Police said that an altercation took place during which Riden was shot and killed, followed by Pierce driving away from the scene.

Clayton police said they got a break in the case Thursday when an anonymous tip helped them identify Pierce’s SUV and connect the vehicle to her. After an interview with investigators, police were able to find and arrest the Carswell sisters.

All three women remain in the Clayton County Jail without bond.
