New Year’s Eve fireworks fun led to a house fire in Marietta after the homeowner tossed the used ones in a trash can that later caught fire early Thursday morning, according to Cobb officials.

Crews were called to the home on Silver Leaf Drive around 5 a.m., according to the Cobb County Fire Department.

Firefighters extinguished the exterior fire upon arrival, officials said.

Afterward, firefighters went inside the house and found some damage near the home’s chimney, according to officials. Nobody in the house or any firefighters were reported to be injured.

The blaze came after officials earlier this week warned that the dry conditions and high winds could increase the risk of fire danger. The National Weather Service issued a red flag warning earlier this week.

“Outdoor burning is strongly discouraged as any fires that develop could be expected to spread rapidly,” the NWS posted on social media.
