One man has been captured and another is at large after they were charged with murder in connection with a 2018 armed robbery and shooting in Clayton County.

Authorities identified Derick Isaiah Sample and Lorenzo Jamal Roberts as suspects in the July 24, 2018, death of 55-year-old Bernardino Martir Jr. after evidence from the crime scene connected the men to the incident, the Clayton County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.

According to a Clayton County police report obtained by AJC.com, an officer responded to Martir’s Stockbridge apartment shortly after midnight and found bullet holes in the front door, which was locked. The officer then went to an unlocked back door, discovered more bullet holes in a window and saw Martir’s body with a pool of blood around his feet. He was pronounced dead at the scene on Fountain Circle.

Investigators collected shell casings and other evidence that led to the charges against Sample and Roberts.

Sample, 22, was arrested Friday in Forest Park and booked into the Clayton County Jail. In addition to murder, he faces charges of possession of a weapon during a crime and criminal attempt to commit a felony, online records show. Bond has not been set.

Roberts’ whereabouts are unknown. According to the sheriff’s office, he has a tattoo on his left arm that reads “Pamela.”

Roberts is considered armed and dangerous, and anyone who sees him is asked to call 911 or the sheriff’s fugitive squad at 770-477-4479.
