Norcross would like to be more connected. The city is considering placing Wi-Fi in the Rectory Building downtown along with all public parks within city limits.

Currently, the city’s IT department has estimated an initial cost of $3,500 to $4,000 to install equipment that will integrate with the city’s current infrastructure. This equipment will be managed similarly to the Wi-Fi set up at city hall and the public works facility.

The estimated maintenance cost is $33,500 per year, an amount not in the city’s current budget. IT Director, James Trent noted at the city’s September council meeting that several grants are being considered to cover the costs of installation and ongoing maintenance.

The Norcross City Council has asked for more information before considering a vote.
