After roughly three months of work, two Perimeter-area intersections have new left-turn lane extensions that should improve traffic flow.

The busy bottlenecks are in Brookhaven and Dunwoody, which are located near Perimeter Market’s growing business district. The newly improved intersections are Perimeter Summit Parkway and Ashford Dunwoody Road in Brookhaven along with Perimeter Center West and Perimeter Center Parkway in Dunwoody.

The Central DeKalb Perimeter Improvement District, an organization consisting of multiple groups of commercial property owners who pay additional property taxes to enhance transportation infrastructure, spent $268,400 on the two projects.

“As employees re-enter the Perimeter market after so many months of working from home during COVID, they are coming back to a more efficient experience thanks to these two intersection projects,” Ann Hanlon, Perimeter Center Community Improvement Districts, said in a news release.

City leaders said the traffic improvements come at a convenient time as more large companies transition to working again in-person. Both cities have also seen new office buildings and large companies move to the Perimeter area, furthering traffic concerns in an already traffic-congested part of metro Atlanta.

“I applaud the (Perimeter Center Community Improvement Districts) for their participation in long-term traffic solutions which transcend municipal boundaries and improve the one thing all of us have in common: the north metro commute,” Brookhaven Mayor John Ernst said in the release.
