Canton city officials have launched a sustainability and historic preservation project to reduce city energy and operations costs by 28% for the next 20 years, saving the city $2M.

“The City of Canton has a long history with adaptively reusing historic facilities for public purposes,” said City Manager Billy Peppers.

“As we continue our operations in these structures, we look for opportunities to introduce green infrastructure that improves building operations. We are excited about the opportunity to utilize one-time capital funding through sales tax revenues to offset annual operational costs carried by our general fund,” Peppers added.

Construction began this summer, with completion expected in early 2025.
