Snow in Atlanta, winter weather advisory expands

Jan 16, 2022

Snow has moved into Atlanta and southern parts of metro Atlanta after a wintry wonderland covered parts of northeast Georgia with several inches of snow Sunday morning.

The rain has started moving out of Fulton County and all the way into south Atlanta, snow is falling. Though not much accumulation has begun on the roadway, grassy spots are turning white. Around 1 p.m., the rain will have moved out and snow is expected to remain until about 6 p.m.

In Sandy Springs, Buckhead and Midtown, the snowfall is evident and roofs are slowly turning white, with some people heading outside to enjoy the long-awaited winter weather in their cozy puffer coats. Similar conditions are being felt in parts of Cherokee and DeKalb counties.

A winter weather advisory is now in place for several North Georgia counties and cities including Calhoun, Rome, Cartersville, Marietta, Atlanta, Carrollton, Douglasville, East Point and Decatur, according to the National Weather Advisory. Light snow, sleet and freezing rain are expected to continue with up to 2 inches of snow accumulation. Wind gusts remain high at about 35 mph.

Moving into Monday, temperatures will remain low and snow may still be seen through northeast Georgia and metro Atlanta counties. The roadways could be dangerous overnight and black ice is a possibility early Monday morning.
