Power has been restored to thousands after a winter storm toppled trees and power lines across Georgia Sunday morning. But still thousands more remain without electricity as crews work quickly to restore power.
Just over 38,000, down from over 90,000, remained without power as of late Sunday afternoon.
Crews got to work throughout the storm, but as high winds, snow and sleet continued to creep across the state, more outages occurred.
Officials continue to warn about the threat of downed trees and power lines and icy road conditions as they urge drivers to stay home Sunday night and Monday morning.
“If you’re able tonight and tomorrow morning, stay home and off the roads,” Gov. Brian Kemp said in a tweet. “A big thanks to all our partners who are working around the clock to keep Georgians safe!”
If drivers much venture onto the road, the Georgia Department of Transportation cautioned motorists to slow down and not use cruise control.
Our power crews have restored power to thousands across the area. They have been hard at work clearing trees and fixing lines. We appreciate everything they do! https://t.co/e4TdVGZVI4
