The Artful Garden Tour at the High

Take a tour of some of Atlanta's most beautiful gardens.

"White granite slabs were custom quarried, cut to size, and artfully floated for this ascending walkway," Butler said.

This is a view of the flowing dry river bed symbolizing water, with bright Angeline Sedum planting and Dwarf Mondo lawn.

This is Rocky Mountain River slicks, chosen by Butler for their pure white color and round shape to contrast sharp geometry.

One of the highlights of this year's Artful Garden Tour, Jeff Doud and his wife Michaelene Conner wanted a Japanese influence in the garden of their Robert Green (a Frank Lloyd Wright protege) designed home. Expert pruner and garden artist Norm Mittleider, of the Art of Pruning, helped to create this look with a variety of different stones and plants including moss.

This is an Ilex compacta or basic Compacta Holly that has been pruned by Norm Mittleider, owner of the Art of Pruning, to highlight its sculptural attributes.

"The River bed, Mondo lawn, and boulders are carefully placed from North to South to channel energy into the garden, and provide changing scenes from many perspectives," Butler said.

Mittleider suggested these recessed planters in the decking and created a living sculpture with black bamboo.

This is Succulent Echeveria.

This is a Semperviverens or Hen and Chick, a drought tolerant succulent.

This is Heuchera or Coral Bells that is a drought tolerant shade perennial that is available in bright colors including bronze, caramel and chartreuse.
