Private Quarters: A touch of Dutch luxury
Michel Boyd – Old Fourth Ward, Atlanta
“A lot of the stuff here is Dutch. I went to Amsterdam a couple of years ago and lost my mind,” recaps interior designer Michel Boyd. “I would walk by random windows and I’m just like, ‘Oh, my God. I was born on the wrong continent.'"
"I’m from Tibido, Louisiana, a town that’s as big as Midtown," he adds.
Books have to be everywhere in Boyd's three-level, two-bedroom condo in the Old Fourth Ward community that's set between North Avenue and Ponce de Leon. “I find so much inspiration in books by fashion designers, I’m inspired by the mechanics of fashion.”
In crafting a luxurious live/work space, Boyd’s strategy was to display everything for a client to see in application. "Seeing a sample is never really good enough because all clients aren’t visionaries, we’re supposed to be the visionary. And I can’t sell something that I don’t do, so every finish is represented in here.”
Boyd lives by the doctrine, “Revel in all things beautiful, whether it’s a beautiful texture or a moody palette that offers comfort.”
