The Atlanta History Center’s Fall Folklife Festival has a decidedly foodie flavor this year.

The new Fest Kickoff party on the night of Sept. 21 is an all-inclusive ticketed event that celebrates Southern culture and food while featuring several Atlanta chefs and restaurants committed to serving local and sustainable ingredients.

Marie Nygren of the Farmhouse at Serenbe, Linton Hopkins of Restaurant Eugene and Holeman & Finch, and Duane Nutter of One Flew South and Rolling Bones will join in a discussion of the evolution of Atlanta dining. Sample food from Canoe Restaurant, Restaurant Eugene, Bhojanic, and Bantam and Biddy.

Adding to the festivities will be three open bars with special punchbowls created by mixologists from H. Harper Station, One Flew South and Restaurant Eugene, a sommelier who curates Georgia wines, and music by Little Country Giants.

The family-friendly morning and afternoon Fall Folklife Festival on Sept. 22 is centered around traditional crafts, Southern foodways, and environmental sustainability, with events throughout the museum and the History Center’s Smith Family Farm.

Local chefs and farmers discuss current culinary trends that focus on farm-to-table food and sustainability. Watch Southern Foodways Alliance short films on Southern farmers, bacon and ham producers and cheese makers, plus smokehouse and pickle demonstrations. Afternoon guided tours examine folk art traditions from the region.

Local musicians Little Country Giants and Sourwood Honey Band entertain with sets of old-time, folk and bluegrass music. Local food will be available for purchase from Yumbii Food Truck, WOW Food Truck, Farm Cart and Honeysuckle Gelato. Local craft beers, available for purchase at cash bars, include Sweetwater 420, Red Brick Ale and Terrapin Pumpkin Ale.
