Photos: Stylish metro Atlanta fireplaces bring the heat

When Leah and Todd Matthews worked with Level Team Contracting and PSB Studio Architecture to renovate their home last year, they added an outdoor kitchen area with seating and a fireplace. The tall ceilings in the 100-year-old Grant Park Victorian allowed plenty of space for a metal canopy bed from RH in the master bedroom, which also has one of four original fireplaces. The living room of Helene Ross and Eric Connolly’s house sports a new Monessen natural gas fireplace with the original brick from the 1921 house. Much of the furniture throughout the home was sourced secondhand or salvaged, like the RH sofa that was salvaged from a smoke-damaged home or the Crate & Barrel chair that Connolly purchased from ReStore. A sectional, chair and coffee table from Value City create a cozy setup in the keeping room of Martha and Jean-Francois Morizur’s Cumming home. The wooden fireplace screen carved with goats and mountains is from Bonneval-sur-Arc, France, which is one of Jean-Francois’ favorite places in France, where he and his parents would vacation when he was young. The study is awash in gray, from the grasscloth wallpaper to the painted trim and millwork and the upholstery. The bookshelves by Kyle Priest with Rosewood Millwork were designed around windows to bring in natural light. A checked chaise provides a space to lounge by the fireplace in one of the four bedrooms in the Buckhead residence.

Pocket doors, wainscoting, fireplaces and arched windows are a few of the architectural features that captivated the homeowners. "There's something that's so intrinsically beautiful about the house that it alleviates the pressure of having to be a design expert," said homeowner Angela Fusaro.

The bold and colorful decor of Paola and Jeff Roder’s home is inspired by the Pop Art movement. Paola, who is a designer and interior stylist, drew from the era’s affinity for primary colors and daring patterns for the living room decor, including the bright yellow chair from Ikea and the parrot painting above the mantel by Natalie Flor Negron.
