The backyard's colorful and modern makeover replaced a brick patio with a deck that offered room for dining and gathering.

The renovations created more areas on the main floor for entertaining, and the family also can use their deck to entertain. "The genesis around going through a remodel has so much to do with loving where you live," said Chris Bartlett.

Decks & More built the deck, which has furniture from AuthenTEAK Outdoor Living.

Pavers and slate chips created a modern geometric look in the backyard, which was updated with a treehouse (to the left) and a deck.

A cedar deck with a fireplace was added during 2017 renovations. In the covered area, the sectional is from Authenteak with Sunbrella cushions. A cement coffee table from CB2 is on a rug from Ballard Designs. The lanterns are from RH.

The back deck, which overlooks a spacious intown backyard, was added to the 1,650-square-foot bungalow. All-weather furniture and a colorful outdoor rug extend the living space for Megan Isom and Taqqee Id-Deen.

The outdoor deck furniture from At Home features a woven pattern that makes it more durable for all weather. The green pillows accentuate the green in the outdoor rug from Overstock. Gabe Dalusky bought his three bedroom, 3 1/2 bath townhome earlier this year. By purchasing during the building process, Dalusky was able to change and update the design. When the Halwigs rebuilt their historic 1916 house, they added a patio and in-ground pool. "They serve as a quiet calm oasis within the active Midtown area," Halwig said.

Elizabeth Farrell said her family lives in the covered patio space during the summer, watching TV when not swimming in the pool. It's also where they watch football games in the fall. The doors lead to the unfinished basement, which has a pool table and bar.

The courtyard is spacious enough for two seating areas. The Callahans added the pergola with a high-top bar table patio set that they enjoy using as a dining space. The backyard was a part of the $41,000 renovations. Scott Tolbert provided the landscape design.

One of the major draws for Harvey was the small outdoor space, including a fenced backyard. A pea gravel space with a fire pit, adjacent to the paver patio, was a charming feature.

The outdoor spaces include a covered patio and porch off the second-story master bedroom. The brick Craftsman-style home was built by Monte Hewett Homes in 2002.

The partially covered back patio serves as an extension of the kitchen when weather is nice. Kirk added the retaining wall with built-in concrete steps, and the patio gives Karen ample space for container gardening.
